This Privacy Policy explains how Zester ("Zester", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Zester mobile app, related services, and this website.
By using Zester, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, do not use Zester.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use Zester, we may collect:
- Account information: email address and account identifiers used for sign-in and account management.
- User content: recipes, notes, photos/screenshots you upload, imports from links, transcriptions, menu plans, and other content you choose to save.
- Sharing data: share tokens/links and metadata needed to deliver shared recipe or menu previews.
- Technical data: device/app version data, IP/network data, and service logs used for reliability, security, and abuse prevention.
- Support communications: information you provide when contacting support, including account deletion requests.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide and operate Zester features.
- Import and parse recipe data from content you submit.
- Create and resolve shared links and previews.
- Authenticate users and secure accounts.
- Fix bugs, monitor performance, and improve product quality.
- Respond to support and legal/compliance requests.
3. AI and Processing Providers
Some import and parsing features use service providers to process user-submitted content. Specifically, Zester uses OpenRouter (which may route to Google Gemini models) via Supabase Edge Functions to parse recipe data from URLs, images, and voice input. We send only the content you submit (URL, image, or text) for that single import or parsing request. This processing is stateless — your data is not stored or used to train AI models.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information. We may share information:
- With vendors/service providers that host or process data on our behalf.
- When you intentionally share content through public/private share links.
- To comply with law, legal process, or protect rights, safety, and security.
- As part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or asset transfer.
5. Data Retention
We retain data as long as needed to provide Zester, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods may vary by data type and account status.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect information. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- You can update certain profile/content data inside the app.
- You can delete your account directly in-app at Settings > Delete account.
- You can contact us to request access, correction, or deletion, subject to applicable law.
8. Children
Zester is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child provided personal data, contact us so we can review and remove it when appropriate.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. We take steps intended to provide appropriate protection when data is transferred.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
Zester may contain links to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Last updated" date.
